Large hedge reduction in Necton

This project was for a repeat customer who asked us to reduce the height off their hedge. The customer wanted a new height of approximately 8ft. This meant cutting approximately 12-15ft off.

We started by trimming the face of the hedge. Once trimmed we started the process off carefully reducing the height in stages. We had to take extra care with any section hanging over the neighbouring properties where greenhouses and sheds were located.

All waste was chipped on site and taken away leaving a more manageable height for the customer to maintain in the future and also allowing more light into the customer’s garden and house.

Large Hedge Reduction and Its Benefits

Maintaining large hedges is essential for a safe, attractive, and manageable garden. Overgrown hedges can block light, create hazards, and make outdoor spaces feel cramped. A professional large hedge reduction service can restore shape, improve health, and enhance the overall appearance of your garden.

What Is Large Hedge Reduction?

Large hedge reduction involves trimming back overgrown or tall hedges to a more manageable size. Unlike light pruning, it is a significant cut-back aimed at controlling height and width while maintaining the hedge’s natural shape. Skilled gardeners carefully remove excess growth to avoid damaging the plant and encourage healthy regrowth.

Benefits of Large Hedge Reduction

1. Improves Garden Safety

Overgrown hedges can obstruct sightlines along paths, driveways, and roads, creating potential safety hazards. Reducing hedge size improves visibility and ensures safer access for both pedestrians and vehicles.

2. Encourages Healthier Growth

Cutting back a large hedge stimulates new growth and removes dead, diseased, or weak branches. This results in a fuller, greener, and healthier hedge over time.

3. Enhances Garden Aesthetics

A neatly reduced hedge instantly improves the appearance of a garden. It creates clean, defined boundaries and allows sunlight to reach other plants, making your outdoor space feel larger and more inviting.

4. Prevents Property Damage

Overgrown hedges can grow against fences, walls, and roofs, causing structural damage over time. Large hedge reduction keeps growth under control and protects property boundaries.

5. Reduces Maintenance Requirements

Regularly reducing the size of large hedges makes them easier to maintain in the long term. Smaller, manageable hedges require less frequent trimming, saving time, effort, and money.

6. Supports Wildlife

Pruning encourages denser growth lower down, which can create a safe habitat for birds and small wildlife while keeping the hedge manageable for gardeners.

When to Reduce a Hedge

The best time for large hedge reduction is typically during late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. However, timing may vary depending on hedge type and climate. Professional hedge services can assess your garden and recommend the ideal schedule.
